Driving Advice for Potholes

Driving Advice for Potholes

After the rough Boston winter we have experienced, many roads are showing signs of wear due to excessive freezing and thawing. The pavement is weak and many more cracks and potholes are making appearances on the road. If possible, report these types of road damage to your city, county or state transportation authority. If your vehicle suffers damage you may even be reimbursed.

Use these tips to avoid any damage from potholes to stay ahead of the game:

  • Keep tires properly inflated. Tires that are over inflated or under inflated have a greater chance of being damaged.
  • If a pothole is unavoidable, slow your speed before you hit it. Do not break directly over a pothole though as this can actually cause more damage to your vehicle.
  • Hold the steering wheel firmly to remain in control of your vehicle after impact.
  • Be aware that that puddle of water may actually be hiding a pothole below its surface
